Yolanda Dionicio is an undergraduate student studying Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is part of Women in Aerospace at the University of Illinois where she was the technical project organizer. She constructed a solar balloon that was able to reach an altitude of about 50,000 feet. She was amazed at how high a thin plastic bag could fly by using the sun’s heat to produce enough lift. She is also a member of the Illinois Space Society at the University of Illinois. She is an intern for the spring semester for the Center for Science and Engineering Education (CSEE); working for Jim Lutz in determining the performance of the domestic hot water system in Building 90.
