
Tianzhen Hong is a Research Scientist and PI with the Simulation Research Group. He is also a registered mechanical engineer with the state of California and a LEED accredited professional with USGBC. He has more than 20 years of industry and academic experience in building energy efficiency, building energy standards, building energy modeling and simulation, and emerging HVACR technologies. His research focuses on methods of design, operation, maintenance, and human behavior to achieve low energy buildings and sustainable urban systems. He is a key developer of EnergyPlus, the chief developer and product manager of VisualDOE version 4.0, and the founding developer of DeST (former BTP). He is currently leading the research area of Building Energy Monitoring and Simulation under the U.S. – China Clean Energy Research Center for Building Energy Efficiency. He is an editorial board member of Journal of Building Simulation and a member of the COMNET technical committee. He taught dozens of building simulation workshops in the U.S., mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. A list of his publication is available at Google Scholar. He received his B.Eng., M.Eng. and Ph.D. in HVACR from Tsinghua University, China. Before joining LBNL in December 2007, he worked for Architectural Energy Corporation in San Francisco, Supersymmetry in Singapore, National University of Singapore, and Tsinghua University in Beijing.
