
Tom Wenzel is a Research Scientist at LBNL working in transportation energy and environmental policy analysis. Tom has been analyzing in-use vehicle emission data since 1992; he is a national expert on evaluation of state vehicle emission inspection and maintenance programs, and has assisted in the development of a model for predicting modal emissions of in-use vehicles. Since 2000 he has analyzed the effect reducing vehicle weight and/or size in order to improve fuel economy has on occupant safety. He recently managed a project to develop a website for the California Energy Commission that provides guidance to California cities and counties in reducing energy use from their transportation systems. Tom has a master's degree in Public Policy from the University of California at Berkeley.
