Richard de Dear has been actively researching in thermal comfort for the last 30 years in places as diverse as Australia, Denmark, Singapore and the US. He is currently Head of the Architectural Science Discipline at the University of Sydney. Richard is probably best known for his work on the ASHRAE adaptive thermal comfort model with UC Berkeley's Gail Brager in the late 1990s. That model went on to become part of ASHRAE's comfort standard (55-2004; 2010) and is also mentioned in the thermal comfort provisions of the LEED green building rating system
