
Jim Lutz is a Research Associate Supervisor in LBNL's Energy Analysis Department. He has been with LBNL since 1990. Jim works on LBNL's water/energy team (WETT) and on hot water distribution systemwater heaters for the California Energy Commission. He has worked on the China water heater project and for CLASP in India on refrigerators. Jim has also worked on U.S. efficiency standards for furnaces, water heaters, pool heaters and plumbing products. Jim is a registered Professional Engineer and licensed general building contractor in California. He is active in ASHRAE, and currently serves on the ASHRAE Standards Committee, which is responsible for all code language documents, standards and guidelines. Jim was chair of ASHRAE SPC 118.2 when it recently issued a revised standard Method of Testing for Rating Residential Water Heaters. He is a member of ASME and ASPE. Jim has a B.S. in Engineering Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and a B.A. in Sociology from Stanford University.
