Paul L. Ridgway holds a BS in Chemistry from the University of California at Santa Barbara and an MSc in Chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley. The subject of his master’s thesis was the Sodium-Phosphorus/Sulfur electrochemical cell. Before returning to electrochemical energy research, he played a central role in the development of a laser-based, non-contact technique for measurement of elastic properties of paper moving at production speeds on papermaking machines. This technology earned an R&D 100 award in 2006. His current research is in electrochemical energy storage, primarily in lithium ion batteries but also other electrochemical energy storage systems.
