Energy storage holds the promise of solving some of the problems with our current grid. Utilities have to meet peak electrical demand, leading to 20% of “peak” generation assets being utilized less than 70 hours per year. Distributed storage has the potential to solve the problem at the point of consumption by shifting usage away from peak times and alleviating the need for utilities to increase peak capacity. Deployments are limited, however, because storage is prohibitively expensive. Engineering heads from Stem, Inc., a startup in the energy optimization area, will be on hand to describe their approach of combining predictive analytics with EV battery technology to make a commercially-viable distributed storage solution.
