i4Energy is a growing community of experts and innovators here in Berkeley who are defining and carrying out a research agenda to yield IT solutions for our energy future. The initial synergy stems from collaboration among the California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE), the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).   Paul will describe the nexus of i4Energy in bringing together researchers from across campus, among several UC campuses, the lab, and industry. Types of projects include sensors and actuators, data management, advanced controls, visualization, analysis, and policy. Highlights from the dozens of projects include sensors on natural gas pipelines to ensure integrity of the infrastructure, developing Sutardja Dai Hall as a test bed for advanced controls and demand response strategies, and coordinated aggregation of distributed resources for the smart grid.   I4Energy aims to make a difference in the trajectory of sustainability efforts.
