Since 2009, the US Marine Corps has recognized that increased fuel requirements on the battlefield negatively affect its war fighting capability as well as unnecessarily risk the lives of Marines responsible for logistics support.  To resolve this, the Commandant of the Marine Corps created the Expeditionary Energy Office as the functional advocate for energy, water, and waste; tasking them with going across the institution and infusing the very ethos of the Marine Corps with a self sustaining mindset.  The number one objective is to reduce the fuel demand on the battlefield by 50% by 2025.  This talk will describe the activities of the Expeditionary Energy Office, and present the results of a study that monitored the energy use of Marine Corps expeditionary bases in Afghanistan.
