Metastable, Single Crystalline Nanopillar Growth of III-V Compounds on Lattice-Mismatched Substrates

Speaker(s):
Date:
February 28, 2012 - 12:00pm
Location:
90-3122
Seminar Host/Point of Contact:

Silicon photonics is critical for next generation cost-effective, energy-efficient optical interconnects.  Much progress has been made.  However, one most critical component remains missing: a CMOS-compatible laser.  In this talk, I will discuss a completely new growth mode that enables metastable synthesis of single crystal III-V nanomaterial on silicon and poly-silicon.  I will discuss characteristics of avalanche photodetectors, photovoltaic devices and light emitting diodes fabricated using III-V nanopillars directly grown on silicon.  In addition, I will discuss characteristics of optically-pumped nanolasers grown on Si-MOSFET
