The LBNL Leadership Development Program was initiated and launched by Lab Director Paul Alivisatos in 2010. Its intent is to build a diverse pool of scientist and non-scientist managers who can be successful in leadership roles at the Lab. Mary Ann Piette, Venkat Srinivasan and Nan Zhou were nominated from EETD to participate in the first 6-month Leadership Development Program, from May to November 2010. The program curriculum included best practices in strategic planning, leading change, and managing people, and also provided participants with the opportunity to learn from a variety of internal and external leaders who have faced challenges relevant to a National Laboratory. All program participants were assigned to develop strategic plans to complete their coursework. Mary Ann, Venkat and Nan will provide information about the plans they each developed for their groups or departments based on their leadership training.
