A recent NPR report (All Charged Up Over EMFs) commented that "anything you plug in emits EMFs - electromagnetic fields that vary in strength and design, depending on their use. In an increasingly wireless era, EMFs are becoming a political flashpoint. Communities are scuttling plans for microwave communication dishes in their neighborhoods, citing health concerns about EMFs. Fairfax is just the latest city to put a moratorium on SmartMeters, which transmit energy use information wirelessly. So what are EMFs, and how do they affect us?" This presentation will provide: - an overview of the current state of research in biological effects of electromagnetic fields - a look at the strengths and weaknesses of different ways of studying these effects, and - an update on the recently published World Health Organization research agenda on radiofrequency fields, and its relevance to radiofrequency based devices such as SmartMeters.
