LBNL, PNNL and NREL launched the ARRA-funded Commercial Building Partnership Program in April (introduced at an EETD seminar earlier this year), and are finalizing the selected projects. This seminar will describe the LBNL selected CBP projects, including energy efficiency highlights and goals of the projects. A short update on other Commercial Buildings work will also be given, including the User Testbed Facility and other ongoing projects. The CBP objective is to develop a set of energy-efficient, market-ready building solutions that will be widely deployable throughout the commercial building sector. Participants thoroughly document the individual building projects to make a business case for replicating the many technologies, techniques, and best practices used to achieve high performance. Each participant project commits to design and construct either an aggressively low energy new building, or existing building retrofit. Project requirements range from a new building that uses 50% less energy than an ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2007 compliant building, to the retrofit of an existing building to achieve 30% savings compared with its baseline energy consumption, to net zero energy construction. In exchange for the companies’ commitments, U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) provides the technical expertise of both laboratory personnel and external subconsultants to help the companies meet or exceed their goals.
