
This presentation will give an overview of the current and the estimated development of the German power generation mix. It will be demonstrated that the expected influence of fluctuating renewable energy could be significant. Situations with a very low thermal rest load are likely and render it necessary to manage the energy supply (independent from fluctuating generation) or to use storage devices. Furthermore, it will be discussed whether the load profile of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) can be controlled by an indirect energy management system based on variable electricity tariffs. For the investigation a simulation model is used based on algorithms applied in a realized demand side management system. It will be concluded that PHEVs can contribute to the integration of higher shares of fluctuating energy, e.g., from wind power and photovoltaic (PV), into the electric grid.
