The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) with a history of over 70 years is one of the 8 government funded universities in Hong Kong, having the highest number of students. The Department of Building Services Engineering (BSE) is responsible for teaching and research activities in building services engineering, similar to architectural engineering in US. The focused areas are on health, safety and energy aspects of buildings. BSE runs teaching programmes in HVACR, fire and safety engineering, energy engineering, IAQ engineering, built environment, control and intelligent buildings, facilities management, acoustics, electrical services, lighting engineering and piped services up to PhD level. Key research areas are fire engineering, built environment, building energy and facilities management. In this talk, PolyU-BSE will be briefly introduced first. Key research activities are then discussed, with some examples highlighted. As there are interests in exploring collaboration on building energy and built environment with LBL, research activities in these areas will be reported.
