Sharp Laboratories of America, a research arm of Sharp Corp., conducts research and development on a broad spectrum of technologies and applications, including next-generation consumer appliances, health care, and energy, from materials and sensors to large scale systems. This presentation will provide an overview of Sharp Labs and our current research interests, with the aim of fostering interest and collaboration discussions with scientists at National Labs such as LBNL. Key areas of interest include: Energy management technologies in the context of Smart Grid PV materials and systems for residential and utility deployments Wearable consumer friendly health monitoring and chronic disease management solutions Bio sensors for diagnostics Next generation personal devices and smart appliances. Several of these programs target technology prototypes, demonstrations and the testing of innovative research ideas in real-world settings, with the goal of delivering solutions to the consumer and the enterprise markets. This focus and the resident skills at Sharp Laboratories complement those at the National Labs, potentially enabling productive collaborative research and development. Dr. Ayyagari provides lab-wide leadership in program management and development of new research initiatives, focused in energy and healthcare, with significant interfaces to governmental organizations dealing with technology, business and policy. He represents Sharp as a founding member of the Continua Health Alliance on its Board of Directors. Until recently, he led a team of scientists developing a new class of wearable sensors and systems for chronic respiratory disease management.
