Streetline is a wireless sensor network services provider headquartered in San Francisco. The company is focused on one customer - municipal government - with many problems, and is leveraging ultra-low power networks and sensing technology to solve those problems. Streetline's first application area is on-street parking management, with over 2,000 sensor endpoints deployed in dense city centers. Our other application domains include traffic sensing, dynamic signage and payment. We will provide demonstrations of the parking apps currently working in San Francisco and Los Angeles and discuss what it takes to build and maintain such large outdoor networks. Streetline is preparing to offer streetlighting control solutions, and is working with major cities to define and pilot systems for large scale deployments and operations. Streetlighting solutions will leverage existing networks deployed for parking and traffic, and may use parking, traffic and other data for streetlighting controls. One purpose of this talk is enter into a discussion on how streetlighing solutions should be architected, and what goals are reasonable and important for such systems in the up-coming year, two years, and five years.
