The reason that the "precautionary principle" is so hard to define is that it is really several different corrolaries of basic ethical duties to avoid harm and respect autonomy. I will describe what these are and how they might be operationalized practically with a particular attention to how this might be built into LBL's new initatives on alternative energy sources.
