Bill will provide an update on the ATEAM's data center energy efficiency activities by giving an overview of the project team's research and demonstration projects.  The results of this work are showing that there are a number of efficiency measures available today and even more that could gain traction if pursued in the future - such as powering a data center with DC power rather than with conventional AC systems.  Arman Shehabi will discuss a demonstration project whose objective is to overcome barriers to the use of outside air for cooling data centers.  Many data center professionals are reluctant to use this technique for fear of contamination or loss of humidity control.  Arman's work is meant to advance knowledge in this area and provide a scientific assessment of the risks involved.
