In Ghana, about 50% of household electricity consumption is due to refrigeration, and the refrigeration services are a factor of 2-4 less efficient than refrigeration services in developed countries. This makes refrigeration services the most expensive of energy services in residential Ghanaian households, posing serious financial burden on households. --The problem that this project seeks to address involves i) High Refrigerator Energy Use in Ghana, including rural communities; ii) Lack of Energy Use Information in Ghana; iii) Scarcity of Investment Capital; iv) Enforcement and Informal/Used Appliance Markets; v) Lack of a Business Model of Refrigerator Efficiency Market Transformation. --The presentation highlights on a proposed project to address these problems, with the objective to promote efficiency standards of refrigerators in Ghana, and thereby increase access to efficient and economical energy services in Ghana.
