This seminar is presented in two parts. In the first half, Mr. Sakakura will discuss an Energy System Evaluation Program used to study the feasibility of combined heat and power (CHP) as well as other energy systems. An example evaluation is presented showing a state-of-the-art program that uses a Geographical Information System (GIS). In the second half, Mr. Shinji will present microgrid demonstrations in Japan. Several microgrid projects are underway in Japan with objectives that are different from those of the U.S. Some examples of microgrid projects will be presented that show the characteristics of Japanese dispersed power systems and microgrids. Mr. Sakakura is a Ph.D. student at TUAT with a research focus on Energy System Evaluation. Mr. Shinji is a Ph.D. student at TUAT with research focus on electrical engineering of distributed energy systems including micro-grids.
