Casino-21 aims to harness the power of idle home and business PCs to help forecast the climate of the 21st century. The plan is to carry out a large, perhaps multi-million member, ensemble forecast of the next 50 years by running a full-scale climate model on PCs owned by volunteers. This will enable us to quantify the uncertainty in current predictions of climate change. It will also help raise public awareness of the nature of uncertainty in climate change. David Stainforth is a researcher in the Atmospheric Physics Department at Oxford University. He specializes in computer models of the earth's climate.
