Acute odour irritation and toxicity from indoor and outdoor airborne contaminants is strongly related to momentary peak concentrations. Dr. Wilson will review the state-of-the-art in estimating fluctuating concentrations and predicting once-per-event peak values. Some rule-of-thumb guidelines will be proposed to allow estimates of 90th percentile exceedence limits, and peak levels knowing only the mean concentration of a naturally dispersing pollutant.
