Joan
Daisey, our beloved former leader and colleague passed away in February
2000. In 1986, Joan came to LNBL from NYU to lead the Chemistry Group.
In 1989, she was appointed as the Department head for the IED. Under her
leadership, the IED added a new research group on exposure and risk assessment,
developed an existing effort into a group on indoor air pollutant transport
and expanded the chemistry effort into the PSD&C Group. She served
on the Science Advisory Board (SAB) of the U.S. EPA beginning in 1987
and was chair of the SAB executive committee beginning in 1998. She was
very active in a number of scientific societies including the International
Society of Exposure Analysis, which she helped to found. We miss Joan's
friendship, leadership, dedication to science, high energy and uplifting
spirit.
